Goals galore after the break as Gilmerton edge Edinburgh Caley

Gilmerton FC beat Edinburgh Caledonian 3-2 in a close encounter at Roseburn Park. This LEAFA Sunday Division 1 clash produced a five-goal thriller in the second half after both sides had failed to find the net in the opening 45 minutes.

Gary Hastie broke the deadlock for Gilmerton before this lead was doubled through Steven Froude. Chris Jones then pulled one back for Edinburgh Caledonian but Froude made it 3-1 when he broke through on goal and produced a composed finish.

With only five minutes remaining, Brian Syne set up a tense finale when he fired Caley’s second of the game but Gilmerton held on to claim a precious three points. Gilmerton’s player/coach Iain Young was delighted his side secured victory at a difficult venue. He said: “Edinburgh Caley are a good side so to come here and win is a great result for us.

“I really think we can do well in the league this year, we’ve got some really good players so we need to keep it going.”
