Goalkeeper for Stenhousemuir over-35s remembered after weekend death

Tributes have been paid to Michael Duke, who died at the weekend.

The popular goalkeeper turned out for Stenhousemuir over-35s

The goalkeeping coach of Albion Rovers had previously served Kilsyth Rangers for more than ten years in the Junior ranks and was awarded a testimonial last year.

He was most recently between the sticks for Stenhousemuir over-35s who tweeted: “It is with great sadness we inform you of the passing of our player Michael Duke. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.”

JD Peacock from the team was a good friend. He said: “Dukesy was more than a teammate, more than a colleague. He was a really good friend.

“He had a brilliant ability to make everyone feel at ease, I worked with him at Kilsyth Rangers and Albion Rovers and the one thing all of the young players say is that it was ‘Dukesy’ that was the first one to talk to them and helped them settle in and reassured them about being there, he cared about everyone, he had such a big big heart.

I am absolutely devastated that he is gone, I will miss him so much, and my heart goes out to Emma and the three kids, I just hope that they can take comfort in the fact that Michael was so loved by so many people.”
