Forfar claim a point at Dunfermline in battle to beat drop

Forfar Athletic claimed a vital point in a 2-2 draw at champions Dunfermline as they seek to beat the drop, but it was Cowdenbeath who were the only team in the bottom five to collect full points and who had the most profitable day.

At East End Park, it was no surprise when Forfar grabbed a 13th-minute lead when Gavin Swankie’s low free-kick found the corner of the net. But Michael Moffat, pictured, equalised after half an hour when he latched on to a pass from Ryan Wallace and held off two defenders before slotting home.

Dunfermline kept the pressure on and Conner Duthie was just inches away from a Michael Paton corner. Forfar moved back in front five minutes into the second half when Andy Ryan beat Sean Murdoch for his 12th goal of the season. But Moffat equalised again in the 60th minute after Darren Hill had kept out Rhys McCabe’s shot. Dunfermline could have won it in the closing stages but Forfar held on in spite of having Thomas O’Brien sent off at the death.

Airdrieonians had to rely on a last-minute header from Alan Lithgow to give them a 1-1 draw at home to Stenhousemuir.

After a goalless first half, Alan Cook put Stenhousemuir in front after an hour with a long-range strike, his seventh goal of the season. But Lithgow then produced his timely equaliser.

Albion Rovers boosted their play-off hopes with a 1-0 win over Ayr United at Somerset Park. Ross Davidson almost put Albion in front late in the first half but Mick Dunlop finally settled it deep into the second half.

Cowdenbeth beat Brechin City 2-1 at Central Park. Top scorer Greig Spence put the Blue Brazil in front with his 18th goal of the campaign in the opening minute but Brechin came back in the second half with Lewis Spence equalising with 20 minutes left.

Chris Kane won it for the home side with just five minutes left with a header to give them a precious three points and leave Brechin at the foot of the table.
