Football news in brief: Ryan Giggs considering his coaching career

MANCHESTER United’s Ryan Giggs is pondering a career in management when he hangs up his boots. The 38-year-old is captaining the GB Olympic team and aims to learn as much as possible from Stuart Pearce and his coaching staff.

He said: “Coaching is something I’m looking at more and more. I want to gather as much knowledge as I can and prepare myself as best as I can, if I do go into management or coaching.”

Fan violence mars friendly in Bruges

Defending Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund lost a friendly match which was overshadowed by crowd disturbances at Club Bruges yesterday.

Violent scenes just before the start of the game as groups of rival fans clashed meant a delay to the kick-off.

The Belgian Jupiler League runners-up eventually won the match 3-1, with Leonardo Bittencourt on target for the German side.

Do Prado agrees to extra year at Saints

Guly do Prado has signed a one-year extension with Barclays Premier League new boys Southampton. The Brazilian, who has scored 22 goals in 85 appearances for Saints, will stay until at least the summer of 2014. He told the club’s website: “To stay here for another year to help the team was very important for me, and I think I have a big opportunity this season.”

Roma swoop for USA star Bradley

Roma have confirmed the e3.75million signing of United States international Michael Bradley from Serie A rivals Chievo. The 24-year-old has penned a four-year contract. Bradley, who has won 69 caps, joined Chievo last summer from Borussia Moenchengladbach and had one year left on his contract with the Verona outfit. As part of the deal, Roma’s Romanian midfielder Adrian Stoian, 21, has joined Chievo.

Fulham settle for stalemate in Leipzig

Fulham played out a goalless draw against HB Koge of Denmark in Leipzig. Veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer captained the side which included a mix of first-team players and reserves. There were few chances during the first half, with Marcello Trotta’s volley saved by the Koge goalkeeper. Fulham manager Martin Jol changed his entire team for the second half, which saw new signings Sascha Riether and Mladen Petric make their bow.
