Football match abandoned after referee floored

REFEREES in Scottish football often bemoan getting a tough time from players but spare a thought for this German whistler.

A ‘friendly’ match between Benfica and Fortuna Duesseldorf turned into farce on Saturday when official Christian Fischer was apparently knocked over.

The Benfica captain is seen in the video above protesting about the decision to send off his teammate Javi Garcia before delivering what appears to be a body-check to the Bundesliga referee.

Fischer remained on the ground for several seconds before abandoning the match in the 39th minute.

It has since been reported that he plans to take legal action against Luisao.
