Football in brief: QPR land Man Utd’s Park

QUEENS Park Rangers have agreed to sign South Korean midfielder Park Ji-sung from Manchester United, it emerged yesterday.

QPR owner Tony Fernandes would not confirm the signing but told reporters at the British Formula One Grand Prix yesterday that the club would be making an announcement tomorrow.

“Lots is happening in the club. We’ve signed five players, we’ve got a few more to announce,” said the Malaysian aviation entrepreneur.

Reports said the agreement, which could potentially be worth £5 million pounds, will cost QPR an initial transfer fee of £2m for the 31-year-old.

KALOU JOINS LILLE FOR FREE

LILLE have confirmed the signing of Ivory Coast striker Salomon Kalou on a free transfer following his release by Chelsea.

Kalou has agreed a four-year deal at the Ligue 1 side after being released at the end of last season following six years with the London club.

Kalou joins a Lille side who were champions of France in 2011 and finished third last term to secure Champions League qualification.

PESCARA SANCTIONS ARE REDUCED

Pescara will start Serie A with no points like all the other top-flight teams this season after their two-point deduction for involvement in a match-fixing scandal was cancelled on appeal, the Italian soccer federation has said. The promoted club will instead pay a £23,800 fine.

MARTINEZ SIGNS FOR PORTO

Porto have signed Colombia striker Jackson Martinez on a four-year contract for £7.1m from Mexican club Jaguares subject to a medical, the Portuguese champions said 
yesterday.
