HULL City manager Steve Bruce was full of praise for home debutant George Boyd after the Scotland B cap’s two goals helped Hull to a 5-2 win over Birmingham City.

Gedo also struck twice while Robert Koren found the target once for the home side as they moved above Watford and into second place in the Championship.

Birmingham scored late consolations through ex-Rangers men Peter Lovenkrands and Chris Burke, but it was Boyd who stood out.

“If there has been a better home debut, I haven’t seen one for a long time,” Bruce said. “He was terrific from first to the last. He’s a good player. You can talk about tactics, formations and systems but this kid oozes ability.

“He can play with anybody. He’s a clever footballer. He’s made the difference today at an important time.”

REDKNAPP REFUTES QPR BOOZE REPORT

QUEENS Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has described newspaper allegations his players indulged in a late-night drinking session during a training camp in Dubai last week as “disgusting” and “fabrication”.

Redknapp was furious about a story in the Daily Mirror quoting three unnamed players as saying the camp descended into a “stag party”.

“It was a disgusting story full of untruths,” said Redknapp. “I took the team away and we trained every morning I was there. We were on the bus at 8.30 every morning for training and we never missed a session.

“They had one night out when they went out with four or five other clubs who were there. I know where this story’s come from... and they are trying to make problems for the club.

“It didn’t come from the players, as sure as I can be it came from a football agent and I know who did it.”

PSG SLIP UP IN LYON

PARIS Saint-Germain opened the door for Lyon in the French title race after slipping to an embarrassing 1-0 loss at relegation-battlers Reims, with the leaders conceding the goal shortly after the hosts had a player sent off.

Second-place Lyon can move level on points if they wins at Brest today.

Reims defender Christopher Glombard was red-carded in the 58th minute after picking up a second yellow card, and minutes later midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak was left unchallenged to sweep the ball in following a corner.

PSG brought on substitute David Beckham and winger Jeremy Menez but it made little difference. “We have to battle more,” PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “The pitch really wasn’t good and we couldn’t play the ball on the ground.”

PSG sporting director Leonardo claimed the club were more suited to elite-level football rather than the smaller clubs in the French league. “We’re not made for games like that, we’re a team made to play in Europe,” Leonardo said. “PSG is for Europe, not for France.”

MILAN CRUSH LAZIO

GIAMPAOLO Pazzini’s double helped AC Milan take third place in Serie A with a 3-0 victory over ten-man Lazio at the San Siro. Kevin Prince-Boateng also scored as Milan nosed ahead of Lazio in the battle for a Champions League place.
