First Division roundup: Livingston lead chase after victory

LIVINGSTON moved up to third place at the expense of visitors Hamilton Accies, when they defeated Billy Reid’s side 1-0 on Saturday.

The home side’s Bobby Barr and Accies winger Grant Anderson both missed good openings before the game was settled on 52 minutes, when Marc McNulty headed home a Rory Boulding cross from close range.

Dundee continued their climb to mid-table respectability with their second win in a row as they defeated hosts Morton 2-1.

The Cappielow men had taken the lead early on when Andy Jackson came out on top after a scramble by shooting past Rab Douglas, but the Dark Blues were level by half time.

Former Scotland midfielder Gavin Rae netted his first goal since returning to Dens Park when he headed home, with the winner coming just before the hour mark when Ryan Conroy converted a Jake Hyde cross.

Ayr United sent Raith Rovers into ninth place thanks to a 1-0 success at Stark’s Park, with Kirkcaldy striker Brian Graham netting at the wrong end after just 10 minutes.

The win lifted Brian Reid’s side into eighth place and out of the morale-sapping bottom two slots.

Meanwhile, Queen of the South continue to occupy bottom spot on goal difference after they played out a goalless draw with Partick Thistle at Palmerston in a game that, save for a couple of shots on goal from both sides, is unlikely to live long in the memory of the fans in attendance.
