Fight for second intensifies as Hibs Ladies host Celtic

It’s the ‘battle of the greens’ this weekend as Hibs Ladies entertain Celtic in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Both clubs are locked together on 33 points and victory in tomorrow’s clash at Albyn Park, Broxburn (kick-off 2.00pm) could go a long way to determining who finishes second behind leaders Glasgow City.

“We have faced Celtic so often that we know the strengths and weakness of each other and we know it will be a physical battle,” said manager Willie Kirk. “It’s our first home game since June and everyone is looking forward to it. It will come down to who wants victory the most on the day. We feel we have been very unlucky against them in recent meetings and hopefully we will get the rub of the green tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Hutchison Vale aim to build upon back-to-back wins over Kilmarnock and Falkirk when they host Rangers at Saughton Enclosure (kick-off 2:00pm). Hutchie have the chance to leapfrog their opponents if they win, and boss Ian McDonald said: “Even though Rangers have lost a few players since they beat us 4-3 earlier this season, they will still be a big test for our girls. We have surpassed last year’s points total and are going all out to finish top of the bottom six.”

Spartans will attempt to stop Glasgow City from continuing their stunning winning run – stretching back to May 2010 – when they clash at Petershill Park, Glasgow (kick-off 2.00pm).
