Fight channel Primetime provides new way to see game

The Jersey-based broadcaster secured the rights from the Slovenian FA ahead of BBC Scotland. Match commentary will be provided by Dominic Johnson, whose voice will be familiar to those who watch Sky’s weekly coverage of Spanish football. With Primetime only available to domestic households, pubs and other commercial premises will not be able to show tonight’s match from Koper. Primetime is available on Sky Channel 480 and to Virgin Media subscribers. The match will also be streamed live on Primetime’s website, www.primetimelive.co.uk

The one-off fee to watch tonight’s fixture is £4.99, although new viewers to the channel must first pay a £2.50 registration fee via the website or by calling Primetime on 0871 200 4444.

Boxing and MMA fans are among those already likely to be registered with Primetime which has recently outbid Sky Sports to secure coverage of several high-profile events.

The Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez World Boxing Organisation welterweight title fight in November and Floyd Mayweather jnr’s WBC welterweight showdown against Victor Ortiz in September were both shown live on Primetime.

The channel’s only previous move into the football market was in July 2010 when they showed exclusive live coverage of Liverpool’s Europa League qualifier against Rabotnicki in Macedonia. Scotland’s senior international friendly fixtures away from home are not part of the SFA’s broadcasting contract with Sky Sports and are all open to individual bids.

The previous three friendlies outside Scotland against Cyprus, Brazil and Sweden were screened live by BBC Scotland, ITV1 and ESPN respectively.

Today’s European under-21 Championship qualifier between Scotland and the Netherlands at St Mirren Park will be shown live on Sky Sports 1 as part of the SFA’s main broadcasting deal.
