When does the FIFA Club World Cup start?

The delayed FIFA Club World Cup will kick off on 4 February and run until 11 February.

It was moved from its original dates in December due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

Which teams qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup?

The annual tournament gives continental club winners the chance to be named the champion of champions.

Europe's representatives this year are Bayern Munich, Champions League winners in August, who have named a strong squad.

They beat Paris Saint-Germain in a tightly contested Champions League final in Lisbon, with Kingsley Coman scoring the winner.

Bayern will be joined by South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai, Egypt's Al Ahly, Mexico's Tigers UANL, Doha-based Al-Duhail and South America's Palmeiras.

In a tournament quirk, the holders are not guaranteed a place the following year - meaning Liverpool will not be able to defend their title from 2019.

Due to New Zealand side Auckland City withdrawing from the tournament due to the Covid-19 pandemic, first round fixtures will not take place.

Instead, there will be two second round fixtures to determine which teams will advance to play Bayern and Palmeiras in the semi-final stage.

The winners of that will compete in the final for the chance to lift the FIFA Club World Cup trophy.

What are the FIFA Club World Cup fixtures?

4 February - Tigres UANL v Ulsan Hyundai (2pm kickoff) and Al Duhail v Al Ahly (5.30pm).

7 February - Palmeiras v W1 (6pm) and Bayern Munich v W2 (6pm).

11 February - Third place playoff (3pm) and the final (6pm).

Bayern have named a strong 23-man squad for the tournament, with Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller all expected to feature.

If Bayern win the tournament then it will be the sixth trophy the club has won in the last 12 months - a feat only previously achieved in Europe by Barcelona in 2009.

Bayern have won the Bundesliga, DFB Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and DFL Supercup honours already - with a sixth trophy in their sights.
