Kneehigh Theatre’s thrilling Rebecca sees its penultimate performance tonight. Taking inspiration from both Daphne du Maurier’s novel and Alfred Hitchock’s film adaptation, writer and director Emma Rice has brought the eerie Manderley country estate and all of its sinister inhabitants and secrets to life on the stage. Even if you know the chilling story off by heart, you’re guaranteed to be on the edge of your seat as it plays out in Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre this evening.

DANCE: IN HER SHADOWS

This new collaboration between A Blank Canvas and Jabuti Theatre is a progressive ‘dance-mindscape’ exploring the complexity of depression, as well as challenging the stigmas commonly associated with it. In Her Shadows sees two female performers tell the story of Amy through aerial and physical theatre, enhanced by atmospheric music and striking visual projections. The result is a unique insight into one young woman’s relentless battle with rejection and mental illness.

FILM: ABERDEEN FILM FESTIVAL - THE STUDENTS OF SPRINGFIELD STREET

This screening of drama film The Students of Springfield Street marks the opening night of Aberdeen Film Festival 2015. Crowdfunded online and cast, shot, edited and shown in a matter of 23 days, the movie follows 24 hours in the lives of six friends living, loving and learning in Glasgow. The first feature film from promising British director Steve Johnson, The Students of Springfield Street brings a fresh pair of eyes to the well-worn subject of teenage life.

MUSIC: HECTOR BIZERK

Experimental hip-hip group Hector Bizerk play a homecoming show tonight at Glasgow’s stunning Oran Mor venue. Though they’re often compared to the likes of The Roots and Public Enemy, Hector Bizerk have made a unique mark on Scotland’s fertile hip-hop scene. The band has regularly supported big US stars such as Wu-Tang Clan and Jurassic 5, and a trip to SXSW in Austin, Texas earlier this year suggests their horizons are broadening even further.
