Muirhead, the former Dundee United and Kilmarnock forward, is undergoing a medical this afternoon before travelling to Edinburgh to sign his contract.

Rherras, the Belgian-born full-back, is due to arrive in the Capital later this evening and will meet Hearts management tomorrow morning. He has agreed terms on a three-year deal after leaving the Belgian club Sint-Truiden.

Muirhead, 20, is viewed by Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson as a player with plenty potential despite a disappointing time at United. He was sent on loan to Partick Thistle last season before being released early from his Tannadice contract in April.

Neilson believes the striker can improve and develop at Riccarton given time. A Scotland youth internationalist, Muirhead cost United £150,000 from Kilmarnock in 2015 but failed to make an impact on Tayside. Hearts will give him the chance to resurrect his career.

Irish striker Conor Sammon has also agreed a deal to join Hearts, which is expected to be confirmed later in the week.
