East Fife striker Ryan Wallace, who scored 23 goals last season, and Arbroath playmaker Josh Falkingham have also agreed terms with the Pars. The duo – both 21 – can’t officially put pen to paper until compensation is agreed with their clubs.

Kane, however, has signed after the youngster – who turns 19 today – impressed on trial with the Pars at the end of last season ahead of his release at Tynecastle.

Jefferies said: “I know a bit about Chris from my time at Hearts. It’s a good stage for him to go and realise his potential. We had him in training for a week at the end of last season and he impressed us with his all-round ability. We’ve also agreed terms with Ryan and Josh. There are negotiations going on with that, we’re trying to sort something out with their clubs.

“Because of their age, there is a compensation issue but we’re working towards a deal with East Fife for Ryan and Arbroath for Josh. The clubs don’t want to stand in their way because they will be getting the chance to move into full-time football.”
