Easthouses put on a show to down students in the cup

Easthouses Lily produced their best display of the season to upset the form book with a 2-1 win against their Premier Division opponents, Edinburgh University, in the first round of the Image Printers East of
Scotland Qualifying Cup at Newbattle last night.

On the hour mark, Jason Young wriggled clear of a hesitant university defence and calmly hit a left-foot shot wide of Bald to give Easthouses the lead. Jamie Shiels then hit home a direct free kick, but the referee had not blown his whistle and his second attempt was deflected for a fruitless corner.

Easthouses extended their lead after 76 minutes when Graeme Young showed some articulate foot movements to round Bald and slip the ball into the unguarded net.

The students scored with a stoppage time penalty, with Michael Gray giving Bryan Young no chance, but it was too little, too late for them.
