East of Scotland: Whitehill show no let-up after title

Whitehill Welfare emphasised their superiority in this season’s Central Taxis Premier Division when, having already been crowned champions, they travelled to face the current title holders – Stirling University – and won 2-0.

Whitehill were reduced to ten men after only 15 minutes when Gareth Thom was sent off. However, in the second half, goals by Scott McCulloch and Darren McGlashan earned them their win and they could even afford a missed penalty by Wayne McIntosh. Spartans suffered a final-day 2-0 defeat by Edinburgh University thanks to a double by Calum Murray. Preston Athletic stayed in the top division with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Heriot-Watt University. Tynecastle were relegated after losing 2-1 to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale. Edinburgh City beat Civil Service Strollers 2-0 while Gretna 2008 were 4-1 winners against Vale of Leithen.

Coldstream were promoted along with champions Craigroyston when they overwhelmed Gala Fairydean 8-0.
