East of Scotland: Whitehill progress in cup

Whitehill Welfare reached the next round of the King Cup with a 2-0 away victory over holders Stirling University. Aaron Somerville and Wayne McIntosh scored the goals.

Spartans also made it to the next stage with a 3-2 win over Leith Athletic although they had to come from behind when they trailed 1-0 at half-time to a Craig Hume goal. Two quick strikes by Donal Henretty and Keith McLeod edged Spartans in front before Leith equalised through Jason Stevens. Willie Bremner, the former Leith Athletic striker, scored Spartans’ winner.

Berwick Rangers Reserves had Sam Todd to thank for four assists as the Wee Rangers beat Civil Service Strollers 4-0 with goals by Keith Lough (two), Josh Morris and Greig Smith. There were also King Cup wins for Gretna 2008 who beat Ormiston 1-0 and Preston Athletic defeated Gala Fairydean 6-3 in a high-scoring encounter.
