East Fife 2 - 0 Albion Rovers: East Fife secure victory with two late strikes

EAST Fife left it late before seeing off visitors Albion Rovers with goals in the last 13 minutes from Robert Sloan and Robert Linn earning the New Bayview men a win that moves them up to fifth place.

The Fifers best chance in the opening period was a Scott Dalziel header that just went past Derek Gaston’s goal and the Coatbridge men, who sprung a surprise by including former Clyde, Montrose and Dumbarton front man Roddy Hunter in their line up as a trialist, went close with a John Gemmell free- kick that was saved by Michael Brown.

The deadlock was broken 13 minutes from time when substitute Craig Johnstone headed into the path of Sloan and he sent a crisp shot home.

The win was sealed just two minutes from time with Johnstone again playing a helping hand when he picked out Linn inside the box and the striker finished easily.

Rovers’ sub Paul Quinn came close to pulling a goal back with an injury time volley, but it cleared the bar to sum up a frustrating night for the visitors.
