Dundee United boss Mixu Paatelainen charged with misconduct

The Finn is accused of “shouting and gesticulating at away supporters” following United’s late equaliser against their city rivals.

Paatelainen was pictured cupping his hands to his ears and pointing in the direction of Dundee fans following Billy Mckay’s injury time goal which secured a 2-2 draw after United had trailed 2-0.

The United manager later justified his action by saying he had been goaded by the opposition supporters sitting behind him throughout the match.

He accused them of shouting abuse that “would make you blush”.

Paatelainen said he did not expected to get into trouble with the SFA for his actions but the governing body has acted. A principal hearing date has been set for 13 April and Paatelainen has until 1 April to respond.

Meanwhile, Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain has had his claim for wrongful dismissal in the same match dismissed.

The keeper was sent off for bringing down Mckay in the penalty box and denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. United were awarded a penalty which Mckay scored.

Dundee appealed the red card but a disciplinary tribunal dismissed the claim
