Brown’s league leaders suffered a shock loss after ex-Dens Park ace Mark Burchill’s early headed opener gave Livi a deserved win over the Taysiders for the second time this season.

The Dark Blues now welcome second-top Hamilton to Dens next weekend with just one point separating them from Accies in the race for the Championship title, with Brown expecting much more from those on the park.

“I feel for the fans,” said Brown afterwards. “We definitely owe them a performance next week. We’ve got a massive game coming up against Hamilton and it’s a great one to look forward to. We’re still top of the league but if we get too many more performances like that then we won’t be.”

Livingston surged into an 11th minute lead when Martin Scott’s flighted free-kick caught the Dundee defence napping, and Burchill, pictured, rose unchallenged to send a downward header past Kyle Letheren.

The hosts had an opportunity to equalise in 26 minutes when Craig Wighton’s pass released Ryan Conroy but he was foiled by Livi keeper Darren Jamieson.

Dundee should have levelled in 75 minutes when Conroy’s corner picked out Declan Gallagher but from just a few yards he nodded wide of the target.

Livi manager, John McGlynn, gave his side plenty of praise for their efforts. “We’re delighted to come to Dens Park and get the win. Our confidence will get a massive lift from this and it would be good if we could kick on.”
