Dons fan to be honoured at game today

Scotty Ross died at home with his family on February 7 at the age of 41.

The devoted father-of-one was a huge AFC supporter and had only missed one game this season.

He travelled up and down the country attending matches throughout the year with his friends.

Friend and colleague, Evan Alexander, 40, helped organise the tribute which will be held at Pittodrie Stadium this afternoon.

Evan said: “It’s the least we can do for him.

“He was the most generous person I have ever met.

“Scotty always had a smile for everyone and he was a staunch Don, probably the biggest fan I knew.

“He’s only missed one game this season home and away.

“He was a Red Army member through and through.”

Evan said he had recently attended one of his last ever games with Scot in Perth.

He said: “I didn’t realise how ill he was. I think that’s why it’s hit me so hard.

“It’s never going to be the same going to a football game ever again.

“Everyone will really miss him.

“There was a great turn out for his funeral.”

Scott leaves behind his parents Pat and Frank and nine-year-old daughter Alana. He is also survived by his brothers Graham and Mark.

Graham described his brother as the biggest Dons fan anyone was ever likely to meet. He said the family were all devastated by the death of his elder brother.

His funeral was held at Aberdeen Crematorium last Friday.

Aberdeen Football Club confirmed the applause had been set up for this weekend.

An AFC spokesman said: “Obviously it’s very sad when fans pass away.

“We’re delighted the fans are responding and I’m sure there will be a great round of applause for Scotty.”
