The Scottish international wasn’t due to see his current deal expire until next year, but Celtic have moved to tie their No.1 goalkeeper down to a longer deal after interest from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The English Premier League leaders made two bids for the 34-year-old, both of which were rejected out of hand by Celtic.

Manager Brendan Rodgers revealed this past weekend that everything had been agreed between Gordon and Celtic, and it was just a case of finalising the extension.

He said of Gordon in January: “He is a great guy, hence the reason I want to continue the relationship to work with him. But also because I think he is a fantastic goalkeeper and how he has developed from a player who was nervous with the ball at his feet. He made saves for sure, but this has made him better in other aspects of his game and it is clear to see the levels to which he has improved to.”

Celtic are expected to announce the deal in the next 24 hours.
