Craig Brown ponders bringing Russell Anderson back to Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown is weighing up the possibility of re-signing defender Russell Anderson.

The 33-year-old former Dons captain was yesterday released by npower Championship side Derby and has been linked with a return to Pittodrie, but Brown says finances and fitness will dictate if a move is possible. Speaking before Aberdeen’s SPL fixture at St Johnstone this evening, the Dons manager said: “It would be a wonderful acquisition, if he’s fit. We’d love to have him back on the staff here, but it would require someone buying one of our players or one of our players being attracted elsewhere.”

Anderson began his career with Aberdeen before departing for Sunderland for a £1 million fee in 2007. However, injury has blighted his career, and he later went on loan to Plymouth and Burnley before joining Derby.
