Cowdenbeath 2-1 Partick Thistle: Cowdenbeath foiled by the fog

PROMOTION-chasing Partick Thistle got out of jail last night when referee Craig Charleston decided to abandon this match because of dense fog.

Scorers: Cowdenbeath: Moore (4, 64); Partick Thistle: Lawless (23)

The Jags had found a Cowdenbeath team without their regular central defensive players a handful and striker Craig Moore, on loan from Motherwell, grabbed a double for the Fifers but it will count for nothing. The fog
started to gather early in the match and steadily got worse and eventually the referee had to call time on the fixture as fans struggled to see any play at all.

Cowdenbeath had the perfect start when a Jamie Stevenson cross from the left found Moore, who produced a spectacular scissors-kick finish from ten yards.

Thistle started to get into their stride and Aaron Muirhead tested Thomas Flynn with a low left-foot shot and, in 23 minutes, they equalised.

A sweeping move down the Cowdenbeath right saw Steven Lawless get to the ball first and, after his low shot was blocked, he followed up to shoot low into the net.

Cowdenbeath were almost gifted a goal by Partick keeper Scott Fox in 33 minutes when Conrad Balatoni’s passback saw him try to kick clear but miss the ball which rolled inches wide.

Cowdenbeath grabbed the lead 19 minutes into the half when Lewis Milne found Stevenson with a fine pass and his cross was blasted home by Moore. But, with the game going into the last quarter, it got harder and harder to see the play.
