Celtic begin talks over Caulker

Celtic have entered into discussions with Queens Park Rangers over a deal for centre-back Steven Caulker. The 25-year-old is out of favour with the West London club and Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the England international north of the border. (Scottish Sun)

Roberts to Southampton

Southampton are looking to sign ex-Celtic star Patrick Roberts on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old flew out with the rest of the Manchester City squad for the club’s tour of America and it is thought Pep Guardiola is willing to give him a chance to prove his worth. It City’s boss still isn’t convinced, Southampton may represent a better loan destination than a return to Celtic Park, as the Etihad club can judge his ability to perform in the English Premier League. Caixinha calls for calm

Pedro Caixinha does not believe it is time to panic despite Rangers suffering another defeat in a closed doors match against St Johnstone on Tuesday afternoon. The Light Blues manager fielded a strong starting XI but watched on as his team fell 1-0 to Tommy Wright’s side, who won through a goal from youngster Callum Hendry. (The National)

United to receive £800,000

Dundee United will receive a welcome £800,000 boost to their coffers as Andy Robertson looks set to complete a £8million move to Liverpool. United had a sell-on clause inserted in the player’s deal when he was sold to Hull City. Robertson has left Hull’s pre-season training camp to complete a medical at Anfield. (Daily Express)

Kranjcar ‘sent off’ in friendly

Rangers midfielder Niko Kranjcar was instructed to leave the pitch during the closed doors defeat to St Johnstone after screaming at the official. The veteran Croatian was furious after a high tackle was judged fair by the referee and let him know in no uncertain terms, going face to face with the whistler before being told to cool off on the sidelines. Vanoli joins Chelsea staff

Former Rangers full-back Paolo Vanoli has joined Antonio Conte’s staff at Chelsea. The 44-year-old will join as an assistant coach after his countryman penned a new two-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Vanoli spent one season at Ibrox in 2003/04. (Daily Record)

Crooks signs for Northampton

Rangers have offloaded midfielder Matt Crooks to Northampton. Both clubs announced the 23-year-old had moved for an undisclosed fee. Crooks joined Rangers from Accrington under freedom of contract last summer, but played only three games and his sole start came in a 2-0 defeat by Hearts. (Various)

McInnes signs new deal

Manager Derek McInnes and assistant Tony Docherty have signed new contracts with Aberdeen until 2020. The freshly-inked deals are 12-month extensions to their current contracts with the Pittodrie club.
