Have your say

Ex-Celtic striker Kris Commons has revealed that Derek McInnes told him he was “out of order” after the pundit appeared to question the manager’s focus ahead of Aberdeen’s loss to Rangers at the weekend.

With rumours swirling that the Ibrox club were set to make a move for him sometime after the match, McInnes was interviewed by Sky Sports reporter Luke Shanley before kick-off to discuss the starting XI.

When it came time to discuss his changes to the starting XI following the 3-0 defeat at Ibrox four days prior, McInnes managed to forget one, asking Shanley to remind him of the player in question.

Once it went back to the studio, Commons, who was in attendance with Kris Boyd and presenter Hayley McQueen, wondered whether McInnes was distracted by all the talk regarding Rangers.

This irked the Aberdeen boss, who phoned Commons to clear things up.

Commons told BBC Scotland: “I spoke to Derek today. He had nothing but good things to say to me.

“He thought I was out of order because he thought I questioned his professionalism and the fact his mind wasn’t on the game.

“I did not try to portray that he wasn’t professional or that he didn’t understand his team.

“I just thought it was strange with the circumstances.”
