RANGERS could be set to add Romanian international defender Gabriel Tamas to their squad for next season.

Tamas, capped 63 times by Romania, is out of contract at current club Doncaster Rovers at the end of the season.

The Herald report that Tamas has discussed a deal to head to Ibrox at the start of the 2014-15 season.

Tamas, 30, has featured for clubs in the top divisions in Spain, Russia, France, Turkey and England, spending three years at West Bromwich Albion.

Tamas hit the headlines while at West Brom in 2011 when he elbowed Norwich City’s James Vaughan in the face during a Premier League game. Tamas avoided on-field punishment, but was later handed a three-match ban by the FA.

His international career almost came to an abrupt end when he was banned for life from the Romania team after being caught drinking in the lead-up to a game against San Marino. His ban was later overturned by the Romanian FA.
