Third Division Clyde’s plans to return to within a mile of their former home at Shawfield have moved closer after members of Junior side Rutherglen Glencairn agreed to a joint venture between the clubs.

The Bully Wee resided in the south west of Glasgow from 1898 to 1986 before a nomadic eight-year spell and a move to their current rented Broadwood home in Cumbernauld in 1994.

The club’s board aims to “establish a future location in which the club can be in charge of its own destiny for the first time since selling Shawfield to the Greyhound Racing Association 70 years ago”.

They now want to explore the potential of the Clyde Gateway Stadium site, which was built in 2008. The junior club’s members met on Monday night and agreed to a request for a proposal to develop the Stadium in a joint venture.
