The club have been searching for a new manager since Jim Duffy’s departure to Morton last month, and have identified former Rangers captain Ferguson as the ideal candidate.

The Daily Record are reporting that Ferguson is the man at the top of Bully Wee chairman John Alexander’s shortlist.

Ferguson, who was appointed Blackpool caretaker in January, left the Seasiders after only five months despite leading them to safety in the Championship.

The 36-year-old has yet to make it clear whether he wishes to extend his playing career or make a permanent return to management but Clyde are hoping they can offer him the chance to do both.

Ferguson is reportedly aware of Clyde’s interest, and is set to hold talks with chairman John Alexander on his return from holiday.

His family have remained in Scotland throughout his five-year tenure in England but Ferguson is reported to be interested in returning north of the border to be closer to them.
