Clint Hill set to undergo Rangers medical

The 37-year-old is set to undergo a medical after agreeing a 12-month deal with the Ibrox outfit.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton is looking to stiffen his defensive options ahead of the club’s return to the Ladbrokes Premiership, and Hill could give his side the dose of experience it lacked at times last season.

Hill, who has also featured for Tranmere, Oldham, Stoke and Crystal Palace during a 19-year career, is a free agent after being released by Loftus Road boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink last month.

The veteran defender’s former QPR boss Harry Redknapp reckons he will be a valuable addition to the Ibrox ranks.

“He’s in absolutely great shape,” Redknapp told STV. “He trains well, looks after himself and he’s a family man. I couldn’t speak highly enough of him.

“[Rangers would be] getting a good player, a character, a leader who wants to win. He’s fit as a fiddle and doesn’t carry an ounce of excess weight on him. He’s a good lad, a tough lad with a good left foot who loves a tackle.

“He’s a very good player who would be an excellent signing on a free transfer.”

If he completes his switch, Hill will team up with former QPR colleague Joey Barton and could be joined by another former Loftus Road midfielder, with Croatian Niko Kranjcar also reported to be close to agreeing terms with the Glasgow giants.

As well as Barton, Rangers have already signed youngster Jordan Rossiter from Liverpool and Accrington Stanley pair Josh WIndass and Matt Crooks this summer.
