City influence strong as Smith names Scots squad

EDINBURGH is represented to the tune of six players in the Scotland squad named by Walter Smith today for the imminent friendly with Austria in Graz.

The spine of George Burley's Hearts side was joined by Tony Mowbray first-choice attack as Craig Gordon, Steven Pressley, Andy Webster, Paul Hartley, Garry O'Connor and Derek Riordan were all included.

The match takes place on Wednesday, August 17 in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium, home to Sturm Graz and Grazer AK, and kicks off at 7.30pm UK time.

Omitted from the squad were those who have Champions League or UEFA Cup obligations with their clubs that week.

There are also four Capital-based players in Rainer Bonhof's Under-21 squad for the match against their Austrian counterparts which will take place the previous evening.

Christophe Berra joined his Hibs counterpart in defence, whilst the Easter Road pair of Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson are amongst the midfielders.
