City girls just wanna have fame

WOMEN'S football came home when a cup-winning Edinburgh side was invited to a civic reception at the City Chambers to mark their achievement.

Lord Provost Lesley Hinds honoured the Edinburgh Ladies players who took on city rivals Hibs Ladies in the Scottish Women's League Cup final.

Edinburgh came out 4-1 winners in the showpiece game at McDiarmid Park in Perth back in November.

Lord Provost Hinds said: "It's about time women's football was given some recognition. It's the fastest growing sport in Scotland.

"I've been proud to help celebrate Hearts winning the Scottish Cup and hope to be part of Hibs' celebrations if they win the League Cup next week. Why should Edinburgh's victorious women's team not be given the same treatment?"

Victor Toon, Edinburgh Ladies club coach, said: "We are a young club with a young team of some of the most promising players in the country."
