GALA came from behind three times to finally progress to the quarter-finals of the Image Printers Cup.

It wasn’t until early in the second half that City opened the scoring when Guthrie weaved his way into the Gala area and fired a shot high into the net.

Gala got back on level terms just after the hour when Hay outsprinted his marker, rounded keeper Scobie and shot into the empty goal. Parity lasted only a couple of minutes before Stenhouse headed a cross beyond Turnbull for City’s second.

Gala keeper Turnbull then came to his team’s rescue as he made another full-stretch save from a Gair shot before pulling off a double save to prevent City extending their lead. And, in the final minute, Gala made it 2-2 when Scott Nightingale slid a pin-point pass through to Hay who scored to force extra time.

Vanson restored City’s lead in the first period of extra time when his shot took a heavy deflection, but, with less than ten minutes remaining, Hay played in Nightingale who blasted his shot home to equalise once more. Rob Hewitson was Gala’s hero as he scored the winner with a shot from the edge of the box.
