Changing Room Chat: Four-goal haul is a turn-off for Queen’s

THE first four-goal haul from a Queen’s Park striker in a league match at Hampden in over 45 years was not captured on film as the Third Division club’s cameraman was away working with the Spiders’ under-19 side in Turkey.

Striker Jamie Longworth grabbed a quartet of goals as Elgin were defeated 6-0 and the last time that happened in a league match at Hampden was when Peter Buchanan bagged four in a 7-2 success over Forfar in September 1966. Brian McPhee netted four times away to East Fife in November 1993 with that game ending 5-5 and Ian Denholm also hit four at Hawick Royal Albert in the Scottish Cup in a 6-1 success in January 1974.

The club have filmed their games for more than 15 years, but cameraman David McNeil was more than 2,000 miles away filming the Hampden Youths as part of their two-week Leonardo da Vinci training camp in Antalya. Longworth said: “My last time I scored four goals I was with Kilbirnie Ladeside and that wasn’t filmed either. At least this time I went home with the match ball and a bottle of champagne as Man of the Match.”
