GERMANY’S football team are scrambling to catch up with rivals England as the 2012 European Championship approaches – on Facebook.

The German national team’s official fan page announced yesterday that more than one million people now “like” it. The page added: “In 2012 we should overtake the pole position of England.” The England team’s page had more than 1.1 million “likes” as of yesterday. As Germany narrow the gap, England will surely only now be hoping that the count does not come to a penalty shoot-out!
