Changing Room Chat: Derek Riordan in dash from labour ward

DEREK Riordan completed a mad cross-border dash to play for Bristol Rovers – just 16 hours after the birth of his second daughter. The former Hibs and Celtic star was at his partner’s bedside in Edinburgh as their baby was delivered at 4am on Wednesday.

Riordan boarded a flight to Bristol ahead of that evening’s league meeting with Cheltenham Town. He arrived at the Memorial Ground in a taxi ahead of the 7:45pm kick-off and played the full 90 minutes for Mark McGhee’s team. Unfortunately, Rovers lost 1-0.
