The highly-rated youngster, signed from Motherwell for around £3million in August, showed good technique as he headed home the Scots second goal in the 7-0 win over San Marino on Tuesday. He was also denied a second goal that was not given despite the ball appearing to have crossed the line.

Turnbull will hope his performance has caught the eye of Neil Lennon as the Celtic boss considers his midfield options following the withdrawal of the self-isolating Ryan Christie ahead of the first Glasgow derby of the season at Parkhead this Saturday.

After three substitute appearances during September, Turnbull made his first start for Celtic on 4 October against St Johnstone and will be hoping to get the nod ahead of team-mate Olivier Ntcham for what will be his first taste of the Old Firm fixture.
