Tony Watt wants to show Lennon ‘what I can do’

“The first half of the season was brilliant but, in the second half, I’ve only played a couple of games so it’s not been ideal for me,” said Watt, who started last weekend’s match at Motherwell. “I need to get more games under my belt.

“There are people like me who haven’t played a big part in the league this season. I want to go out and show myself, show the gaffer, show the world what I can do.

“I think I played well on Sunday and staked a claim for playing in the next few games.”

Watt, who was speaking as he promoted a free open training session at the club’s Lennoxtown complex this coming Monday, will be remembered most this season for his Champions League strike in November.

He slotted home what proved to be the winner against Barcelona, and was presented with the Goal of the Season award at Celtic’s Player of the Year ceremony last weekend.

Watt is proud of his strike but he hopes there will be more to come, starting with this weekend’s match against Ross County in the Highlands.

“It was obviously good to win at a club like this, it’s good to get an award under your belt and hopefully I can kick on,” he said.

“It wasn’t for the quality of the goal, there’s been better goals scored this season, but it will have been for the meaning of the goal and what it means to the club.”

He added: “Training is normally a serious business, really hard work and it can be really competitive.

“Hopefully, though, the session we’ll do for the Family Fun Day will have a few fun drills for us to take part in.

“That way we can show off a wee bit and maybe give some of the kids a few skills to try and copy afterwards.

“It’s a great idea, something we rarely get the opportunity to do and the boys are looking forward to it.”
