Stark in no rush to call up in-form Tony Watt

Billy Stark is not surprised to see Tony Watt banging in the goals for loan club SK Lierse – but is in no rush to bring the Celtic striker back into the Scotland Under-21 set-up.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon branded the 20-year-old immature after sending him to the Belgian club last year, while Lierse coach Stanley Menzo described the former Airdrie player as “lazy and unfit” after he scored on his debut in the 2-0 win over Kortrijk in 
September. Watt was reported to have been sent home from training on two separate 
occasions by Menzo and there was talk of him returning to Parkhead in January. However, he has appeared to knuckle down recently, scoring seven goals in eight games for Lierse, but was left out of Stark’s squad for the third time 
running for the friendly against Hungary at Tannadice tomorrow. That prompted Watt to tweet in frustration: “Thought it would be 3rd time lucky for Scotland squad #piedagain.”

“He just said he was 
disappointed basically and he used a modern term, I’m told,” said Stark. “It is good that Tony is keeping a close eye on it 
because I am keeping a close eye on him and we are waiting on the right time to introduce him again, when he shows that he has matured a wee bit over in Belgium. Tony is over there, by Neil Lennon’s 
admission, to progress as a player and a person so I don’t feel any difference in terms of Tony scoring over there. I would have probably put money on that.”
