SPFL top performers: Dick Campbell| John Brown | Ryan Gauld

The past few days have seen a landmark birthday for one of the game’s enduring characters however the weekend also saw a low as the only manager to get the better of Celtic domestically this season lost his job.

The title races in the Championship and League 2 continue to shape up as intriguing affairs and appropriate awards have been given out, whereas the creativity in the Premiership and League 1 is recognised in this week’s selections.

Two Dundee United youngsters have gained further recognition and in the Championship a hat-trick hero, as well as a loan star, have emerged as weekend winners.

In League 1 the Awards are spread from east to west and in League 2 there is an award for a second week running for a striker who does not seem to score an ordinary goal with new league leaders also recognised.

Good weekend for – Dick Campbell (Forfar Athletic)

Any birthday after surviving cancer is probably celebrated more than most and Forfar manager Dick Campbell turned 60 on Friday. His twin brother Ian, who is his assistant at Station Park, obviously shared the celebration and the two of them enjoyed a 2-0 win over East Fife on Saturday.

The manager’s son Iain missed a penalty, however one of his other boys Ross grabbed the Loons second goal to make it a good weekend for his dad.

Bad weekend for – Allan Moore (Morton)

Moore was dismissed by Morton in the wake of his side’s 5-1 Championship defeat to Livingston at Cappielow. Moore had been with the Greenock side since leaving Stirling Albion where he had guided the Binos to the Second Division title in May 2010.

Last season Morton chased Partick Thistle long and hard in the race for promotion however this season his side have failed to get going and have been bottom of the table for two months.

Ironically Moore’s side inflicted his side to a 1-0 win over Celtic at Celtic Park in the Scottish League Cup however that has not been enough to keep him in charge.

Team of the week – Clyde

Clyde succeeded where Annan and Stirling Albion failed recently by winning against East Stirling and replacing the Shire as the top side in League 2. Saturday’s 1-0 win saw Jim Duffy’s men reach the number one spot in the table for the first time since they were relegated into Scotland’s bottom tier in 2010.

An eight game unbeaten run is further proof that the Broadwood club are heading in the right direction and their hard working approach to the game could bring them success this season.

Manager of the week – John Brown (Dundee)

Brown ensured his second top Dark Blues side cut the advantage that Hamilton had on them to just 3 points when the sides met at New Douglas Park. A win for the Accies would have seem them have a commanding 9 point advantage, however Dundee returned to Tayside with a 3-0 win and a determination to chase Hamilton even harder.

Brown also acted as peace maker when a small number of Dundee fans were getting over excited and were out of their seats looking to get closer to the home supporters.

Premiership Player of the week – Ryan Gauld (Dundee United)

Gauld is proving that his potential is not all hype and he ran the show against Partick Thistle in the Tannadice side’s 4-1 win over Partick Thistle.

The 17 year old set up Gary Mackay-Steven in the opening minutes to put United ahead and he then created goals for Andrew Robertson, Mackay-Steven again and Brian Graham after Thistle had equalised.

He limped off towards the end with his work done, however he is expected back for the Friday’s William Hill Scottish Cup tie with Kilmarnock.

Premiership Goal of the week – Andrew Robertson (Dundee United)

Robertson picks up the award for a second game running which is pretty good going for a full back, especially one who is in his first season as a full time player.

With the score against Partick Thistle tied at 1-1 Gauld took a pass from John Souttar before picking out Robertson with a diagonal ball and the ball was sent into the net with a crisp low finish from 15 yards out.

Championship Player of the week – Marc McNulty (Livingston)

It may have been a sad day at Cappielow for Allan Moore, however Livingston striker Marc McNulty hit a hat-trick as the Lions won 5-1. McNulty opened the scoring in the early stages of the game as he skipped around Nicolas Caraux to net and he doubled his tally from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

McNulty rubbed the final dose of salt into Moore’s wounds with a fifth goal in stoppage time.

Championship Goal of the week – Mark Millar (Falkirk)

Millar’s return to the Falkirk Stadium on loan has proven to be a win-win for the Dundee United man. He is getting valuable game time and the Bairns are getting better results due to his promptings.

Millar sent his side on their way to a 4-0 success over Cowdenbeath when he thumped the ball home after efforts from Philip Roberts and Craig Sibbald had been blocked.

League 1 Player of the week – Michael Moffat (Ayr United)

Former Girvan Juniors goalgrabber Moffat is now the top goalscorer in Scotland after his penalty kick double in Saturday’s 4-3 win over Stenhousemuir. Moffat was fouled for the first spot kick that opened the scoring and he dusted himself down before slotting in.

The 29 year old also scored to make it 3-3 before Kevin Kyle nicked a winner.

League 1 Goal of the week – Ryan Wallace (Dunfermline Athletic)

The Pars game with Brechin City at East End Park was just 3 minutes old when Ryan Wallace opted to have a pop at goal from 25 yards out. The ball flew past visiting goalkeeper Graeme Smith and gave Wallace’s side a platform to go and win 3-1.

League 2 Player of the week – Nikola Rajovic (Clyde)

Rajovic has been pressed into action in the Bully Wee’s last two games due to an injury picked up by regular number one Jamie Barclay. The Serbian has not let anyone down and keeping a clean sheet as Clyde defeated East Stirling to replace them as league leaders gets Rajovic the League 2 Award.

League 2 Goal of the week –Andy Rodgers (Peterhead)

Rodgers is another second time around winner. Last week he won thanks to an acrobatic scissors-kick against East Stirling and this time he wins it for his cheek. With the game at Hampden against Queen’s Park goalless Rodgers turned a mishit corner by team-mate Graeme Sharp into a goal by back-heeling the ball past a stunned home defence.

He also scored a cracker in the second half with a 20 yard curing shot as the Blue Toon ran out 5-0 winners.
