Scott Brown wants to move on from ‘mistake’

Brown was pictured on the front page of a newspaper last Friday slumped in the street eating some fast food following a night out in Edinburgh on the previous Wednesday.

But the 29-year-old helped his side to a 2-0 victory over Dundee United at Hampden on Sunday and manager Ronny Deila declared the incident no “big issue” despite admitting it did not look good.

Now the Scotland midfielder has declared the incident over and done with following talks with Deila.

He said in the Celtic View: “I don’t think I’m the first player to make a mistake and probably won’t be the last but I’ve spoken to the manager, it’s been dealt with and now all I’m doing is moving on. I’m sure the club, the manager and the fans know that my total focus will always be on the matches coming up and nothing else but winning for Celtic.

“It was a real honour as captain to lift the League Cup and we now want to push on and try to bring our fans even more success this season. That’s all we’re thinking about.”

Speaking after Sunday’s game, Deila claimed Brown had made amends for his error. The Norwegian said: “It’s not a big case. He was home at 10.30pm, it looks like he was home at six in the morning.

“Broony has played 60-65 matches this year. He had a day off and wanted to be out with his friends. I have no rules about that.

“I said the players have to be fit and Scott Brown is the fittest player we have but we have a reputation to take care of.

“It’s not a positive example for the youngsters. We weren’t proud of the pictures and things that appeared in the newspaper.”
