Scott Brown wants to help Celtic win ten in a row

Fresh from helping his club seal their fourth successive domestic crown at the weekend, the 29-year-old midfielder has expressed his desire to continue playing for Celtic into his late 30s.

If he achieves his ambition and Celtic continue their current dominance of Scottish football, it would take them past the current record of nine in a row they share with Rangers.

“I’ve won five titles now and counting,” said Brown, who claimed his first league winners’ medal in 2008 before Celtic’s current run began in 2012. “I’ve still got a long way to go. I’m only 29 and I still feel good. I’m enjoying my football, so, hopefully, there is a lot more to come.

“If we win nine in a row, I’d need to get another season in after that, eh? Seriously, I’ve got six, seven or eight years left in me. I feel as good as I did at 21. So as long as I feel like this, I’ll keep playing. I don’t see myself playing anywhere else. The club has been great to me, Peter Lawwell has been great to me and the managers of the past too, as well as the current one. It feels like home.”

Brown, speaking at the launch of Celtic’s new home kit for the 2015-16 campaign, also expressed indifference over the potential return of Rangers as top-flight challengers.

The Ibrox club are preparing to do battle with Brown’s former club Hibs, Queen of the South and the second-bottom placed Premiership club in a bid to join Hearts in facing Celtic next season.

Brown insists he is not concerned about the prospect of resuming Celtic’s Old Firm rivalry with Rangers. “Not in the slightest,” he said. “If it comes back, it comes back. But if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. We will see what happens. It will be hard for whoever comes up.”
