The title, relegation, and promotion all on the line

This weekend could see promotion, relegation, and the destination of the SPL title all confirmed.

Tomorrow lunchtime, Celtic will take on Inverness Caley Thistle needing a point to wrap up another SPL title. Motherwell’s win against Dundee United last night briefly delayed Celtic’s title celebrations.

This afternoon, John Brown’s Dundee need a win to have any hope of avoiding the drop when they take on St Mirren at 3pm. At the same time, Partick Thistle will secure their return to the SPL with a point against Falkirk. Check Scotsman.com for full match reports on all the weekend’s games.

‘You’re opening a can of worms’, Lennon tells SFA

Neil Lennon has said that the SFA are “opening a can of worms” in their pursuit of him for swearing at St Mirren captain Jim Goodwin.

“I will take my three-game ban, that is no problem to me,” Lennon said. “But what is coming is a storm for the SFA. This has opened up a huge can of worms.

“If you hear a manager swearing, is he going to get brought up? I have seen a lot worse. I have seen managers smash dugouts this season and managers squaring up to each other.” (Scotsman)

Dave Bassett: ‘Green had no allegiance with Gers - and McCoist was lucky to survive’

Former Sheffield United boss Dave Bassett has stuck the boot into former Rangers chief executive Charles Green, saying that Green is “not a real football man” and that Ally McCoist was lucky to survive Green’s reign.

Speaking to The Sun, Bassett claimed that Rangers would be better for having cut ties with Green, who left under a cloud of racism allegations and reports of links with disgraced former owner Craig Whyte.

“(Charles) has got absolutely no allegiance with Rangers.

“He probably enjoyed it enormously because Rangers are a massive club, a bit institution.

League reconstruction: Lennon behind Gilmour, change ‘takes us back to ‘98’

The arguments on league reconstruction rage on, with St Mirren boss Danny Lennon insisting that the club are fully behind chairman Stewart Gilmour.

Gilmour helped to cut down the 12-12-18 proposals in Monday’s Hampden talks.

In his column in The Scotsman today, Glenn Gibbons argues that a single governing body for the game is a reversion to the old status quo, rather than a big change.

He says: “The readiness to embrace re-unification amounts, finally, to an admission of what some of us insisted forcefully in 1998: that there was nothing the dissidents could achieve in their new venture which would have been beyond their reach by remaining under the umbrella of the SFL.” Read the full column here.
