Rangers won the match 1-0 thanks to a Ryan Jack goal, but the game was shrouded in controversy with Alfredo Morelos involved in a number of potential red-card incidents with Celtic players.

After the player escaped retrospective punishment as it was said Beaton had witnessed all the incidents at the time, Celtic released a statement calling for Beaton to explain his decision. The whistler was then the victim of alleged online threats.
