Red Bull on the charge ahead of tie at Celtic Park

The Austrians visit Celtic Park on Thurdsay full of confidence after surging six points clear at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga following a 2-1 win at Sturm Graz.

Red Bull know a win would seal top spot in the group, having already clinched qualification.

And Slovenian international midfielder Kampl is confident they can get three points in Scotland.

He said: “This game at Celtic was always going to be the highlight for every player in our team.

“When the draw was made, it was the game we all wanted to play in. Of course, we are going to Glasgow to try and get the win.

“We are all very confident. We’re playing well and the match against Sturm was a good test for what awaits us at Celtic.

“We are hoping the stadium will be full and we are looking forward to the atmosphere.

“Already, we are going into the winter break with a good lead at the top of the league. And it would be perfect to have already won our Europa League group with a game to spare.”

Celtic defender Jason Denayer has urged fans to turn out in numbers to help give Ronny Deila’s side the edge against the Austrians. The louder Parkhead is on the night, the better chance Celtic will have according to the Belgian.

“Salzburg are a very good team so it will be a very big game at home, and hopefully we can get as many people in the stadium as we can,” he said. “It would be great for it to be full.

“It makes a difference to the other team as well, as when you have that kind of atmosphere in the ground it can be difficult to play well.”

Celtic’s youngsters also have a big match this week, with Stevie Frail’s development squad making their first foray into the new English Premier League International Cup with a match against Everton’s Under-21 team at Goodison.

Looking forward to the clash against Everton and forthcoming ties against Sunderland and Villarreal, Frail told Celtic’s website: “We’re looking forward to it. It’s the type of game we always enjoy playing.

“First we had Next Gen and then the Uefa Champions League Youth competition, so we’ve seen some English opponents before and it’s something we’re looking forward to.

“We’re prepared for it as it’s a top game and the lads are really excited about it, especially with the game being at Goodison. It adds a bit of glamour to it.

“We know they produce good players but if you look at guys like Ross Barkley, Leon Osman and Wayne Rooney, these are guys that have come through their academy and are top players, so I’m sure the group they have at Under-21 level will be full of top players.

“It’s a good test and good for the lads’ development and for us to see where they are.”
