The first Old Firm match of the year and indeed, the first meeting between the two Glasgow giants since December 29 last year, will be played behind closed doors.

Amid fears that fans could travel to watch the game in pubs and clubs, Lennon said: "Enjoy the game at home.

"Stay with your family, don't put yourself or anyone else in jeopardy. Please don't travel.

"Going out, going to other places, different towns... it is not ideal, not acceptable.

"We would urge our supporters to stay at home with your family."

Lennon’s opposite number Steven Gerrard also appealed to supporters saying: “The priority here is fans' safety and I urge them to stay at home, stay safe, keep their families safe and do the right thing.”

The Ibrox boss also echoed calls from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon urging Sky Sports to broadcast the match for free.
