Nicola Sturgeon: Don't expect Celtic and Aberdeen to be playing this week

First Minister issues “yellow card” to Scottish football

Celtic's Boli Bolingoli went to Spain and failed to self-isolate.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says she would not expect Celtic or Aberdeen to play this week because of breaches of coronavirus rules.

The announcement came after Celtic player Boli Bolingoli took a secret trip to Spain last week and failed to self-isolate on his return.

The left-back then played in a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock in the league on Sunday. Celtic have since apologised.

The Celtic incident comes after a game between Aberdeen and St Johnstone on Saturday was postponed after two Aberdeen players tested positive for Covid-19 and a further six were instructed to self-isolate following a night out in a bar.

Celtic are due to play St Miren away on Wednesday while Aberdeen are to host Hamilton Accies.

Celtic and Aberdeen are then scheduled to meet at Parkhead on Saturday.

At her daily briefing, Sturgeon said: “We have to be very clear this situation is not acceptable.

"You should not be expecting to see Aberdeen or Celtic play over the course of the coming week.”

In a clear warning to the Scottish football authorities, a clearly exasperated First Minister added: “Consider today the yellow card, the next time it will be the red card.”
