Celtic have agreed to travel to the tropical destination for a friendly on Sunday, 18 May,
according to organisers.

Liverpool have already agreed to tour the island for a week if sponsors can secure the deal and have sent members of their commercial department over to negotiate. The Scottish champions have provisionally agreed to play the Anfield giants at the 30,000-capacity Stade Anjalay in Belle Vue Maurel.

The organisers are Mauritian company Health and Sport, in conjunction with their government’s ministry of youth and sport. Their spokesman Jawid Tharanee said: “Given the friendly relations between Liverpool and Celtic, the Scottish club have agreed to come. They made contact with us and agreed without much convincing. We had requests from German and
Italian clubs to play too, but we are happy with Celtic.”

Liverpool are due to play Shamrock Rovers in Dublin in a friendly on 14 May and it is believed the deal hinges on whether the Mauritian authorities can get sponsors to charter a private plane from Dublin to the capital of Port Louis.
