Victor Wanyama insists his future lies at Celtic despite interest from Premiership

CELTIC midfielder Victor Wanyama says he is happy to stay with the Parkhead club for the foreseeable future despite being linked with moves to a number of Premiership clubs.

The 21-year-old says he has no desire to move on and believes that his ambitions can be fulfilled by playing at Celtic who are currently competing in the group stages of the Champions League.

Arsenal and Manchester United were reportedly interested in landing the Kenyan international who transferred from Belgian outfit Beerschot for £900,000 last summer.

The Kenyan international is on a four-year deal and it is understood that his value has risen considerably.

Parkhead manager Neil Lennon included Wanyama in the list of players he would like to reward with new contracts following Celtic’s Champions League qualification this season.

Wanyama said yesterday he was happy to develop his career at Celtic.

He said: “I am really happy here and looking forward to staying for many years.

“Celtic is a big club and I’m happy to play here. We are in the Champions League. I don’t think it can get any better than it is here. I’m really happy.

“I talk to my parents a lot and they advise me to keep my head just on football . That really helped me. I just concentrate on football. That’s all that I do and that’s all that I like.”

The Kenyan made his Champions League debut last week during Celtic’s 0 - 0 draw with Benfica at Parkhead.

He said: “It was just unreal before the Benfica game. Just standing in front of a 60,000 crowd and every part of the stadium was full, and knowing it was on television was great. The excitement gives you the energy to keep going.”
