Tony Watt linked with Charlton Athletic switch

The ex-Celtic striker has reportedly been told he has no future at Standard Liege just four months into a five-year contract.

Watt has played 10 times for Les Rouches, scoring twice, but has spent the last few days holding talks with the English Championship outfit, according to the Express.

Should a deal be struck, Watt would line up for his fourth club in just 18 months, after joining Lierse from Celtic on loan, before returning hoping for a fresh start under Ronny Deila.

However, the Norwegian questioned Watt’s attitude and fitness, and shipped him off to Standard Liege for £1.3 million earlier this year.

Watt, 20, has struggled to settle, and has been told he can leave Liege, who finished second in the Belgian top flight last season.

Charlton - owned by Liege chairman Ronald Duchatelet - are in line to take Watt to The Valley as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a play-off push.

Watt - who turns 21 at the end of this year - hit the headlines after scoring the winner against Barcelona in a Champions League match at Celtic Park in November 2012.

But he struggled to match expectations and suffered as a result, finding himself in and out of the Celtic squad and dropped from the Scotland Under-21 team.

Should Watt move to Charlton in January, he will team up with Liege pair Yoni Buyens and Frederic Bulot and former Les Rouches quartet George Tucudean, Tal Ben Haim, Reza Ghoochannejhad and Oguchi Onyewu.
